Marine INNS Strategy

Marine Invasive Non-Native Species on the Berwickshire,  Northumberland and North Tyneside Coast: A Strategy for their Prevention, Detection and Management (November 2023)

This Strategy (link above) describes the biosecurity issues of the coastal and estuarine waters of the Berwickshire, Northumberland and North Tyneside coast and presents actions for the prevention, early detection, control and mitigation of the introduction and spread of Marine Invasive Non-Native Species. It is intended to align with the GB Non-Native Species Strategy and to address the omission of marine INNS from the North East Invasive Non-Native Species Strategy

The Plan reviews the current and future threats from marine INNS, examines the main pathways for INNS introduction and spread, discusses biosecurity measures that can be taken to reduce the spread of marine INNS, and sets out measures for reporting the presence of marine INNS and the steps to be taken when they are discovered. It also provides a short action plan to inform future activity.
